Our Coastal Life on Film

Three compilations of archive films from East Anglia

Creative Arts East, 2017, UK, approx. 80 mins.

In a change of programme we are now showing these compilations of short archive films from East Anglia. “Beside the Seaside” looks at Norfolk and Suffolk resorts in the 1930’s, Mundesley in the 1950’s and the holiday camps at Hopton and Caister in the 1960’s.

“For Those in Peril” has Dick Joice telling the story of the Cromer lifeboat as well as films on the coastguards at Cley and Wells in the 1960’s.

“Gone Fishing” covers the herring fleets of Lowestoft and Yarmouth and the fishermen who made a living catching the famous Cromer crab.

We hope that Eddie Anderson, who worked for many years at Anglia TV in Norwich where he revived the ever-popular show "Bygones" (previously presented by Dick Joice) will be able to join us to tell us about these historical films.
